Several insects are considered lawn pests because they can damage or disrupt the health and appearance of your lawn. Common lawn pests include:

1. Grubs: The larvae of various beetles, such as Japanese beetles and June bugs, feed on grassroots, leading to brown patches in the grass.

2. Chinch Bugs: These tiny insects pierce grass blades and suck out the sap, causing yellow, drought-like patches in lawns.

3. Ants: Ants can build nests in lawns and disturb the grass by creating mounds and tunnels.

4. Armyworms: The larvae of armyworm moths consume grass blades, leading to large, irregular brown patches.

5. Sod Webworms: These caterpillars spin webs and feed on grass blades, causing damage similar to armyworms.

6. White Grubs: White grubs are the larvae of various beetle species and feed on grassroots, resulting in wilting and dead grass.

7. Mole Crickets: These burrowing insects create tunnels and damage grass roots as they feed.

8. Craneflies (Tipula spp.): The larvae, known as leatherjackets, feed on grass roots and can cause extensive damage to lawns.

9. Ticks: While not lawn pests directly, ticks can inhabit tall grass and pose health risks to humans and pets.

10. Weevils: Certain weevils, like the annual bluegrass weevil, feed on grass stems and create irregular patches.

It's important to identify the specific pests in your area to implement effective pest management strategies and maintain a healthy lawn. Integrated pest management (IPM) is often recommended, combining various tactics to control pests while minimizing environmental impact.
